Challenge to the Care Quality Commission’s Decision to Suspend Inspections of Services

6th May 2020

Since the outbreak of Coronavirus the Care Quality Commission (CQC) have suspended their usual in person inspections of hospitals and care homes. Respond has joined together with ten other organisations and Leigh Day the Law firm to write a letter to the CQC to ask them to restore their in person inspections.

We feel that this close scrutiny is needed more than ever at this time when visits from family and friends have been suspended, there is no leave and many therapeutic activities have also ceased. This means that there is no chance of anyone outside of the organisation picking up on abuse or poor practice. We urge the CQC to reconsider its decision as soon as possible and restore proper scrutiny in order to keep people safe from abuse or neglect.
