The Journey to The Lighthouse

18th November 2020

We are pleased to share the news about the publication of a new book about an innovative service for children and young people that experience sexual abuse.

The Journey to the Lighthouse by Emma Harewood tells the story of the establishment of the first UK Barnahus (Child House) called The Lighthouse.

It is a safe space for children and young people that experience sexual abuse.

Following the review of the pathway of child sexual abuse in 2015, Emma set out to persuade and influence her colleagues, commissioners and the Government to make a change for children and young people experiencing sexual abuse in London.

Three years later the Lighthouse was opened in Camden, with Emma as Lighthouse Delivery and Service Manager, and over 350 children a year are referred for support.

Based on the original Icelandic Barnahus model, the Lighthouse transforms the recovery process offering medical, social care, therapeutic, investigative and advocacy services all under one roof.

There will be a virtual book launch on 26th November at 6:00pm.

You can pre-register on the ChildHub registration link at: The Lighthouse Book Launch
